I’ve fallen a little behind with my “weekly” sketches (studying for my test side-tracked me for a couple of weeks), but I’m determined to catch up.  With this gray weather we’re having, I’m hoping to find a cozy place to curl up with my sketchbook this weekend to do some doodling.  I’ve been playing around with different media lately, but I’ve found that I’m still a big fan of a plain old ink pen.

First of all, I absolutely love your ‘country road’ sketch!

Second.. I dont really know how I found your page, but I started looking at your sketches, and I noticed that you are an architect.

Although you don’t know me, I’m asking for your help. I am in college, and just recently did the career of architect intrigue me. Art is a passion, but i never thought of it as a career.
my college does not offer architecture as a major, but i cannot financially afford to change schools.
I guess what I’m asking is, can you point me in the direction of a major? What did you take in college?

My advisors are useless, and the other architects Ive talked to think a woman in such a field is absolutely ludicrous.

    I hope you can help!

Jessica – I studied architecture in college – it is difficult, though not impossible, to get an architectural license without a degree in architecture. Some architects begin as interior designers, which might be another option for you. In regards to “art as a career”, I can’t really say that architecture would fit that bill. In fact, I became so interested in art because it provides a creative outlet for me during those times when my job really doesn’t call for creativity. I don’t want to discourage you – architecture can be a really challenging, rewarding field, but I think that many people don’t find that it is quite as “creatively fulfilling” as it seems it would be. Not always true, but often the case. Good luck, and thank you for reading my blog!
